Tesla Cybertruck is nearly £40,000 more expensive than Elon Musk first said at unveiling
The Tesla Cybertruck is on sale in the USA five years after its first unveiling, however drivers are shocked at how much it costs after hefty sales taxes.
As the first motorists get behind the wheel of Tesla Cybertrucks in America, one Reddit user has shared just how much the unusual electric vehicle costs.
First unveiled in 2019, the all-electric Cybertruck has left motorists divided thanks in part to its unconventional styling and stainless-steel bodywork.
Posting to the subreddit r/cybertruck, the user @tenfthigher shared the sales invoice for his Cybertruck, noting it ultimately cost more than they were expecting.
They said: “VIN assigned! Here is what the final invoice looks like.”
Whilst the Tesla itself cost the motorist $102,235 (£80,640), taxes drove up the cost of the model to $113,242 (nearly £90,000).

In America, one of three places in which Tesla currently sells the Cybertruck, the amount of tax that electric vehicle owners pay for their new car varies heavily by state.
Whilst motorists in some part of the country pay zero sales tax on an electric model, other areas require drivers to pay the fee in full.
Currently in the UK, electric vehicle owners no longer receive any cashback when buying a new electric model, but do not have to pay road tax until April 2025.

However, in addition to the hefty tax bill, many other Reddit users were shocked to see how much the retail price of the Cybertruck has increased since it was first announced.
During the truck’s unveiling in 2019, Tesla CEO Elon Musk noted that prices for the model would start at no more than $40,000 (£31,500).
Now that the vehicle has gone on sale, prices begin at $79,990 (£63,100) and go up to $99,990 (nearly £79,000) for drivers interested in the top of the range Cyberbeast, before any taxes.
