Most affordable electric cars for 2024 named - starting at £7,695
As the cost of motoring continues to rise, drivers can buy a brand-new electric vehicle for as little as £7,695, with many offered for under £28,000.
Whilst electric vehicles are still typically much more expensive than petrol alternatives, there are a number of new models that offer a stylish appearance, good standard equipment and a practical range for a reasonable budget.
Citroen Ami - £7,695
Despite not being a car in the official sense, the cheapest EV on sale is the Citroen Ami, with prices starting from a very reasonable £7,695.
Classed as a quadricycle, the Citroen Ami is much more limited than a conventional car, featuring a speed limit that is capped at 28mph and no airbags or anti-lock brakes.
However, motorists who only travel within a city or are looking for a budget-priced second car to cover short distances such as going shopping will find the Ami a very capable runabout, offering a 47-mile range and go-kart-like handling.
Dacia Spring - £14,995
The cheapest full-sized electric car on the market is currently the Dacia Spring, a four-seater supermini that has recently gone on sale for the first time in the UK.
Priced to undercut a lot of petrol-powered hatchbacks, the Dacia Spring features crossover-inspired styling and a quirky interior that can be customised by the owner by purchasing a range of modular accessories.
Sporting a tiny 45bhp motor and 26.8kWh battery, the Spring is by no means a hot hatchback, but is still capable of covering a total range of 137 miles and can accelerate from 0-62mph in a respectable 14 seconds.
BYD Dolphin - £25,490
As more Chinese cars enter the UK market, it is no surprise that models such as the £25,490 BYD Dolphin are helping to make electric vehicles more affordable.
Another hatchback, the Dolphin has clean and trendy styling and plenty of technology, with all models featuring a 'floating' touchscreen that can be rotated to either portrait or landscape to better suit the driver's taste.
The basic Active model can cover 211 miles, with Dolphin owners needing to splash out on more expensive models in the range to get its maximum range of 265 miles per charge.

Vauxhall Corsa Electric - £26,895
Another cheap choice for drivers looking to switch to electric is the latest Vauxhall Corsa, with the EV range priced from £26,895.
A mainstay on the UK market since 1993, the Vauxhall Corsa has always been a trendy looker, with the latest model recently receiving a facelift to incorporate the 'vizor' front end and a larger powertrain on the higher-end models.
The cheapest Corsa Electric #Yes features the older setup, comprising of a 134bhp motor and 50kWh battery, which is capable of a 0-62mph acceleration time of 8.9 seconds and able to cover about 200 miles per charge, making it a good choice for motorists looking to do some longer-distance travel.
MG4 - £26,995
Finally, one of the most popular choices amongst budget electric car owners is the MG4, another Chinese-built model with prices starting at £26,995.
Launching in 2022, the MG4 is one of the oldest models on the list but still manages to look incredibly modern thanks to its sharp and angular appearance, which is now starting to be seen on other MG models.
In SE form, the roomy five-seater comes as standard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, adaptive emergency braking, and a 218-mile range.
