Prince Harry reportedly wants to reconcile with King Charles, but the monarch "just wants peace" in his twilight years, a source has suggested. The Duke of Sussex was in London earlier this month, but didn't see his father, who was attending an event at Buckingham Palace not far from where Harry was marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games at a ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral.

An insider has told the Mirror Harry has a special place in the King's heart, but the monarch wants to avoid any drama.

They said: "Harry's made his bed. I'm an advocate for protecting your peace, and if this young man is bringing the drama, then good on King Charles for giving him the space he needs to grow.

"King Charles just wants to have his peace in his twilight years. He doesn't want to argue."

Relations between the Duke of Sussex, his father and brother, Prince William, are said to have been strained by Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepping down as senior royals.

Allegations levelled against the Royal Family have included claims by Harry in his memoir Spare that William physically attacked him in a row over Meghan.

The Sussexes also ignited a "royal racism" row, claiming questions were raised about the colour of their then unborn son Prince Archie's skin. The couple have since appeared to row back on the claim.

Harry also alleged Queen Camilla tried to rehabilitate her image with the public by "sacrificing" him on "her personal PR altar".

Talk of reconciliation between the Sussexes, King Charles and Prince William has been rife since, with some commentators arguing Harry wants to forgive, but the monarch and Prince of Wales are less willing to mend relations.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told Times Radio that earlier on it was Harry who demanded an apology for the affronts he preceived to have been levelled against Meghan.

She added: "But now I think the tables have turned somewhat. Messages coming from Harry's side are that he's ready at least to forgive and that he loves his family. He's said that quite publicly. He wants to see more of them.

"But it is Charles and William who seem to be resisting reconciliation at this point so I think it was first one, then the other."

The rift was most recently brought into sharp relief when Harry visited the UK but met neither William nor Charles.

None of the Royal Family attended the Invcitus Games 10th anniversary event at St Paul's, although members of the Spencer family were there to support the Duke.

Charles's "full programme" meant a reunion was not possible during Harry's trip, his first since February after the King announced his cancer diagnosis.
