A 21-year-old man has been arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm.

Two people have been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in north London this afternoon. Police closed Kilburn High Road in both directions after being called to reports of a stabbing, with a 21-year-old man arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm.

One woman was treated for stab wounds at the scene, while a man in his 50s suffered a slash wound to his hand.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 12.01pm today (April 25) to reports of a stabbing opposite Kilburn High Road Station. We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and members of our tactical response unit.

"Our first paramedic was on the scene in under five minutes. We treated two people at the scene. We took one patient to a major trauma centre and one patient to hospital."

Images posted on social media show a huge police presence and large cordon outside The Old Bell pub.

According to traffic updating site Inrix the traffic has returned to normal after the closure.

Man arrested after stabbing in Kilburn High Road

A Met Police spokesperson said: "On Thursday, 25 April, police were called to Kilburn High Road at 12:04hrs to reports of a stabbing.

"Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service (LAS) who treated a woman with stab wounds.

"The woman, in her 20s, has been taken to hospital. Her condition has been assessed as non life-threatening.

"Further enquiries found that a man, in his 50s, had suffered a slash wound to his hand. He was taken to hospital. His condition has been assessed as non life-threatening. The man and woman are known to each other.

"A 21-year old man has been arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and GBH. He has been taken to hospital before being taken into custody.

"Local roads are currently closed as a crime scene is in place."

Where is the incident?

The polic incident is on Kilburn High Road. There is a police cordon on the busy north London road nearby an Overground station.

Police are yet to confirm what the incident it but Kilburn High Road has been closed in both directions.

Unconfirmed reports of a stabbing

Rumours are circulating on social media as to what has caused the police presence.

Reports have suggested someone was "stabbed" during the incident, though this is unconfirmed.

The Met Police have been contacted for comment.

Kilburn High Road is closed both ways

According to AA Traffic, the road between Belsize Road and Cambridge Avenue is closed both ways.

There is also congestion to Kilburn Park Road northbound, back to Willesden Lane southbound.

What do we know so far?

There is a major police presence at the bottom of Kilburn High Road today.

Police have taped off a section near The Old Bell pub - just near to Kilburn High Road station -  and multiple police cars are in the area.

Express.co.uk has contacted the Met Police for comment.

Road closures in place

Kilburn High Road is closed in both directions between B509 Belsize Road and Cambridge Avenue.

There is also congestion building on Kilburn Park Road northbound, back to Willesden Lane southbound.
