ITV Coronation Street fans all say the same thing as beloved character's exit confirmed
After months of speculation Coronation Street confirmed that a beloved character had left the show in one sentence.
Corrie: Ed tells Michael that Aggie broke up with him
Coronation Street has finally explained the fate of Aggie Bailey (played by Lorna Laidlaw) after the character has been missing off screens since June last year. In Wednesday night's episode, her exit was confirmed after her husband Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) arrived home from visiting her at her Auntie Marcel's.
The nurse had seemingly been caring for her ill relative but the Bailey patriarch looked despondent as he walked through his front door to be greeted by son Michael (Ryan Russell). "No mum," Michael enquired. "Is it Auntie Marcel?"
"Auntie Marcel is fighting fit and has been for weeks," Ed informed him. "She's not the problem. But you know that," he told his son.
As Michael pleaded that he didn't want to tell him not to go he said resignedly: "Oh it wouldn’t have made any difference if you had. I had to hear it for myself. She can’t forgive me. There’s no going back."
"I tried. I didn’t just roll over. I begged," he said tearfully. "She's even given up her job at Wealthy General," he informed him, referring to the fact that she worked as a nurse in the area's hospital.
Viewers were disappointed by her send-off and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to make their feelings known.
@ElloTeenah seemed confused asking: "So Aggie is gone? Let down. Bye, Lorna Laidlaw #Corrie." @Winis_World was concerned enquiring: "Does anyone know if the actress who plays Aggie, is ok?#Corrie."
@WatcherMark theorised there was more to it, ruminating: "There we have it folks, Aggie Bailey is confirmed to be gone for a good nine months after vanishing from screens. I'd love to know the behind-the-scenes story of whatever the hell happened. #Corrie."

John Lydon says it's ‘preposterous’ to think he’s lost touch with roots [EXCLUSIVE]
Actress Lorna Laidlaw joined the ITV soap in June 2019 and has been a pillar of support for her family, especially after her husband gambled away their luxury home. She also embarked on an affair with Tim Metcalfe.
Until now her absence hadn't been conformed as a permanent exit. During her last on-screen appearance, Aggie hosted a dinner party at the Metcalfe's home trying to pass it off as her own so that her former neighbours wouldn't know they had lost all their money.
Her unexplained absence was mentioned a few times by family members up until now as she even missed Christmas at home.
Coronation Street is on ITV Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
