Stefanos Tsitsipas explains why he was left in tears after winning Monte-Carlo Masters
Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Monte-Carlo Masters for the third time.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was left in tears after winning the Monte-Carlo Masters. The world No. 12 has now won three of the last four editions of the tournament. And he explained why the third one was the most emotional after beating Casper Ruud 6-1 6-4 in Sunday's final.
Tsitsipas put himself back in the winners' circle as he lifted the 11th title of his career and his first since last summer. The 25-year-old had a tough start to the season and dropped out of the world's top 10 for the first time in five years.
But he will return to the elite group of the rankings on Monday after winning the Monte-Carlo Masters for the third time in his career. The Greek star was impressive all week and capped off his run with a statement performance against Ruud, saving all eight break points he faced.
Tsitsipas put his head in his hands and cried after clinching the victory on Sunday and he later explained why he was so emotional despite winning the tournament twice before. "It’s been very difficult so to be back on the podiums, winning tournaments just feels amazing," he said.

"I can’t thank enough my family and friends and well, if there is a God out there, for making this possible. Sorry, I forgot how to speak. For making this possible, I am extremely generous to every single person behind this journey."
Tsitsipas is the fifth player to lift the trophy in Monte Carlo at least three times and he admitted that he was desperate to complete the trilogy. The world No. 12 continued: "The trinity is even more special than the first or the second time.
"This is truly unbelievable for me. Capturing that win today, it was nerve-wracking. I really wanted this trinity so I got it and I’m extremely happy."

"I had a chat with one of my team members last night talking about it so I really had to go out here and show that kind of tennis because I promised every single one of them that I’m not going to give up and that I’m going to make the most out of it.
